Hamilton Bulldogs Player of the Week - Dustin Tokarski

Pierre McGuire already loves him, so should you.

It was another slow week for the Bulldogs, who went 1-1-0 in two games this week against Syracuse and Binghamton, in the slow week it was almost a no brainer for us to name Dustin Tokarski as this additions player of the week.

Tokarski opened the week with a 40 save shutout against the AHL's first place team (not to mention his former team), the Syracuse Crunch in a 1-0 win. An interesting note for Tokarski, he also played his former team the Norfolk Admirals on January 4th, and also posted a shutout while playing for the Crunch.

Dustin's effort against Syracuse earned him the praise of teammates on twitter, Kyle Hagel tweeted:

As I've mentioned. Tokarski has won a Memorial Cup, a Calder Cup, as well as a Canadian Midget National Championship.

Tokarski followed up his shutout with a 20 save effort in the Bulldogs 4-2 loss to the Binghamton Senators, who much like their parent club, keep finding ways to win despite losing their top players. Tokarski allowed 3 goals against the Baby Sens, The 4th goal was an empty netter.

This week Tokarski posted a 1.51 GAA and a .952 SV%, pretty impressive stats for a guy playing on the last place Bulldogs.

Since joining the Bulldogs, Tokarski has appeared in 11 games posting a 5-5-0 record, 1.68 GAA, and a .946 SV%. With Tokarski in the crease, the Bulldogs have a chance to win every game.

Tokarski was acquired in a straight up trade for Cedrick Desjardins, who played his second NHL game yesterday in a 3-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. So far in the NHL Desjardins has gone 0-3-0 on a struggling Tampa team. Desjardins has posted a 3.00 GAA and .890 SV% this season in that time.

As of right now, it looks like Montreal has won this trade considering they get a younger goalie who is experiencing success at the AHL level, as opposed to Desjardins who has struggled this season in Tampa, and whose career has been stymied with injury problems.
