Canadiens vs Penguins - Top Six Minutes - Complete chaos

Richard Wolowicz

A game like tonight's is entertaining for fans, but Michel Therrien is likely having a conniption. Unfortunately for him, the only person he can blame is himself.

  • Hey my power is back on!
  • You can look at tonight two ways; The Canadiens continually refused to die against a great team, and fought back from multiple deficits; Or the Canadiens played their worst defensive game of the season and it cost them a winnable game.
  • The truth is, it's a little bit of both.
  • The Josh Gorges - Francis Bouillon pairing is an embarrassment and Therrien needs to give up and put Subban back with Gorges. Raphael Diaz is good enough that the Habs were mitigating disaster while getting out-possessed, Bouillon is not.
  • I'm not sure what Max Pacioretty was attempting to do on the game winner, but at least he was there. David Desharnais was lazily wandering back into the zone while Gorges and Subban took their men out of the play.
  • Needless to say, I'm still not sold on Desharnais as a top 6 center.
  • Carey Price was pretty clearly rattled after the 3 Penguins goals in 5 minutes in the second. I'm assuming he and Therrien talked about what he wanted to do during the second intermission, so I'm not going to pick on that. My guess is he'll play phenomenal tomorrow in Boston.
  • Four players had 2 goal games, 3 of them Penguins, but the important one for Habs fans is Brian Gionta. The captain had been struggling with execution this year, but tonight he looked like his old self.
  • Tomas Kaberle had a good game, if he can do that a couple more times the Habs could actually get something for him.
  • Therrien is rolling his top 3 centers, each one within 40 second of ice time of each other tonight. That's depth, and part of why the Habs were able to come back tonight.
  • Andrei Markov got his first even strength point of the season!
  • 12 goals scored at even strength in one game. How ridiculously absurd. Expect something like 1 goal in tomorrow's game against the hated Bruins.
  • One point against one of two teams in the east this year that has been objectively better than the Canadiens isn't a bad thing. On to the next one.
  • More in the morning.
