Canadiens vs Kings Top Six Minutes - A Royal Mess Edition

Jean-Yves Ahern-USA TODAY Sports

This game was more funny than anything else. The Los Angeles Kings laid a 6-0 beat down on the Montreal Canadiens.

  • So, um, I'm not really sure what to say about this game.
  • The Habs got off to a good start...
  • ... and then David Desharnais Defense happened...
  • ... and then the rest of the team was infected with David Desharnais Defense and the LA Kings won 6-0.
  • The second period by the Habs was an objective disaster, but the first was actually really, really good except for the aforementioned DDD that resulted in the goals, and the third was really not bad.
  • I'm serious.
  • Remember when the Kings were awesome and cool and amazing and we liked them, loved them, wanted to be them?
  • They still are, and we still do.
  • But if they lose to Toronto tomorrow I am going to be waiting for them outside the Air Canada Centre with hate in my heart.
  • That goaltender interference non-call was worse than all the times Therrien puts Francis Boullion on the power play.
  • Rene Bourque compliment of the night, for JD__: he is not [Francis Boullion playing the point at all on the power play].
  • The Habs lost to one of the best teams in the NHL. It happens. The bounces also didn't go their way. It happens. Honestly, I'm only upset because the first was an amazing period to watch and the second and the lopsided score kinda ruined it.
  • Poll time: did Therrien pull Carey Price because he was a) scared that Carey was going to murder the officials or b) scared that Carey was going to murder his teammates?
  • This is the first time the Los Angeles Kings have ever shut the Montreal Canadiens out, home, or away, ever (per Kings PR on Twitter).
  • Really, this game was not so bad. I am struggling very hard to find original ways to say, the score sucked, that non-call sucked, the second period sucked, but the Habs did not suck. They played better in this game than they did in, say, that Oilers loss. Hell, they played better in this game than they did against New Jersey (twice), Boston and possibly Buffalo (although I did not see that game so I am going by what I read).
  • I polled Twitter for a decent title for this Top Six, went with my groan-inducingly terrible one anyway, but I have to mention Conor McKenna's suggestion because it's gold: Ten Kings I Hate About You.
  • Also, who the fuck is Martin Jones?
  • EOTP Third Star was user Michel Therrien, early in the third, with: "I'm not even at de game anymore. Dey can lose as a team, I'm passing by Tim Hortons and den straight home. Tabarnak."
  • EOTP Second Star was JonPublic with: "This must be what Bret Hart felt like."
  • EOTP First Star was courtnall with: "Kings haven't scored for few minutes. The tide is turning."
  • Sorry I don't have much more for you tonight. The Habs are stupid. On to my dirty mistress, the Philadelphia Flyers. This is how it's gonna go: Vinny's back spasms (for which he is out 3-4 weeks) will miraculously heal and he will return and score a hat trick against the Habs, and Claude Giroux will score another hat trick, and Sean Couturier will have an assist on every one of those goals, and we will all hear about Flying Frenchmen, and why didn't Montreal trade for Vinny/ pick Claude Giroux/ make whatever trade with LA that resulted in Sean Couturier?
  • That or the Habs could win. Because they're not so bad. They just sometimes play like it.
