I was relieved to hear Bourque was cleared for practice. I was even more relieved to hear he didn't have a regular spot on a line.
I hope, by the time someone reads this post, that an announcement has been made that Rene has been traded to anyone for anything.
I would take a 2nd rounder and a bag of pucks (to replace all those pucks going missing from Diaz's shooting practice).
If that happens, I will write a post stating a wish to package that 2nd rounder with Diaz and DD to acquire a mobile/physical/RH Dman that can play with Emelin, and actually make a tape to tape outlet pass or get a shot on net.
We have depth at forward (especially in the area of forwards with half a heart), but we need to improve our #4 d man spot....
Gorges is a great PK guy, very smart poke-checker and fearless shot blocker, but he is a chip-it-off-the-glass-and-out type guy and is a better fit in the #5 role with heavy PK duties.
Diaz tries to make the direct outlets, but they generally end up as icings or suicide passes. I would accept him as our #6 because he has a sneaky good defensive stick and shows flashes of heads up play.
Boullion is a solid #6/7..... with limited minutes
Murray.... uggh I wish he was better.... but is it just me, or is every hit AFTER the guy already made a good play with the puck? I will consider the possibility that he will find more legs, or just play smarter to not compromise his positioning at the wrong times.... but right now i'm not confident.
I personally would like to see the young guys (Beaulieu, Tinordi, Nygren.... ) get an opportunity to fill a 2nd pairing spot, but come playoff time we will need at least 1 more SOLID d man to make a run at a cup....and what better way to acquire that solid d man than to leverage one of our few, and somewhat valuable, assets, in Mr Bourque.
If any of this works out, my next post will be wishing for a PA job with Mr Bergevin.
