Patrick Roy shows contempt for decorum, money (and other links)

Your collection of fine links for the morning.

Here's a Pierre McGuire photobomb so amazing, I'd be remiss if I didn't give it top billing. Enjoy it and the rest of today's links.

Montreal Canadiens News and Analysis

George Parros, Max Pacioretty and Brandon Prust did not skate at Montreal's practice on Thursday. Parros is out indefinitely with a concussion, Pacioretty took a therapy day for what appeared to be a wrist injury sustained on opening night, and Prust was away for family reasons. Both left-wingers are expected to be ready for Saturday's game against Philadelphia.

Christopher Boucher gives his assessment of Carey Price's and James Reimer's performance in the season opener, taking into consideration things like "big saves" and dangerous rebounds.

The Habs held a practice in front of 1,300 fans in Lac-Mégantic on Thursday, as part of a series of goodwill gestures designed to help recovery efforts following the July 5th rail disaster. Players and personnel were emotional when viewing the devastation and seem touched by the excitement from the locals.

General News and Analysis

Those of you that had "less than one day" in the Patrick Roy Tantrum Pool woke up richer people yesterday morning. Roy was fined $10,000 on Thursday for screaming at and pushing a pane of glass into the opposing bench during Wednesday's Avalanche season-opener against the Ducks. Although Patrick's behaviour seemed pretty unreasonable to me and Bruce Boudreau, both Matt Duchene and Andi D of Mile High Hockey dug it.

Dan Saraceni of Lighthouse Hockey goofs and spoofs on the U.S. political climate and the NHL fighting debate simultaneously. What more could you ask for?

Friend of the show Patrick C (also know as Chunklets) looks at the first-ever Olympic hockey tournament, which seems bizarre by any time period's standards. From it being held as part of the 1920 Summer Olympics, to the president of the IIHF equivalent suiting up for the Swiss, hockey's Olympic origins are certainly unique.

Medvescak Zagreb, the only Croatian team in the KHL and current club of former Hab Mathieu Carle and former Rocket Richard winner Jonathan Cheechoo, is gaining a Winnipeg-like reputation for having a small, loud, and crazy home atmosphere.

Scott Howson, Sr. Vice President, Hockey Operations for the Edmonton Oilers, walks TSN Radio's Jason Gregor through some of the intricacies of the salary cap. This includes an explanation of the performance bonus cushion and the potential implications of bonuses pushing payrolls beyond the cushion.

Researchers in France have looked at how the eating habits of fans change following wins and losses. If you're an Oilers fan on a diet, you have my sympathies.

Ilya Bryzgalov will join the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers for their training camp. Bryz is seeking to get in shape, place himself on the radar of NHL clubs, and gain perspective on his career choice.

Fox Sports Live, Jay Onrait's and Dan O'Toole's U.S. home, featured a full segment of hockey highlights and analysis on opening night, more than doubling ESPN's NHL output. The question now is whether or not FS Live will keep up the good work when the NBA season starts up.
