Which Montreal Canadien Wore It Best: #47

The number 47 has been worn by only five players for the Habs in over a 100 years of history, but only two qualify. Who wore it better?

After ripping up the AHL to the tune of 70 goals in 78 games, Stephan Lebeau earned himself a roster spot on the Montreal Canadiens. Lebeau improved his scoring in each full season with the Habs, going from 15 to 22, 27, and finally 31 goals over that time. Lebeau topped even the loftiest of expectations in 1993 with 80 points in 71 games, and he played a role in the Montreal Canadiens' 24th Stanley Cup victory that same year with 6 points in 13 games. Unfortunately Lebeau was traded the next season to the Mighty Ducks after a slow start, and he seemed to be one of those players who excelled in Montreal more than anywhere else, so his NHL career soon flamed out. Lebeau went to Switzerland during the NHL lockout of 95-96 and became a star in that league, never to return to the NHL.

Look at that goofy grin. Marc-Andre Bergeron is a special kind of player, in that he has one main skill and doesn't do much else. It's not that MAB is unskilled, in fact it's got some good offensive instincts, and of course that wicked slapper, it's that he can't really handle playing defense. Watching MAB at the blueline with the other team's forwards incoming was like watching a deer in the headlights. But, he had his uses. As a powerplay specialist there are few more effective players than Bergeron. Not only that, but he scored a very important goal in recent Habs history, the opening tally in Game 7 against Washington in 2010. Bergeron has that unique ability to make you curse him one second and jump for joy that he's playing the next.
