All-Star Skills Thread: Habs Price, Diaz Set to Show Their Talent
The 2012 NHL All Star Game isn't until Sunday, but tonight is likely the most entertaining part of the weekend's events.
The players and rookie invitees are set to show their talents in the All-Star Skills Competition.
The Montreal Canadiens are represented by goaltender Carey Price, and rookie defenseman Raphael Diaz, as members of Team Zdeno Chara.
Price will partake in the "All State Breakaway Challenge", facing Team Daniel Alfredsson members Sean Couturier, Logan Couture and John Tavares.
Price will also compete in the "Tim Horton's Elimination Shootout".
Diaz will be part of the "G Series NHL Skills Challenge Relay", as part of the puck control relay portion.
Full Skills Competition rosters and rules.
What's the over/under on scoring chances in the breakaway and shootout events?
Video of Price and Diaz at Friday's media scrums, and other links, after the jump.
Flyers rookie Sean Couturier is blogging from the All-Star Weekend.
Jeremy Roenick weighs in on No. 76
More on P.K. Subban, from NBC's post game coverage Wednesday. The first clip features Erik Cole's post-game comments with Pierre McGuire.
Great news for Habs fans/autograph fans in the GTA. Max Pacioretty will be doing an autograph signing on Friday February 10. Details on fees/pre-order can be found here.

well, there’s always rumors..like, say, hemsky or perry or semin or (insert random name of player rated over 84 in hockey video games) to montreal. Not only that, but it will either happen or not happen, and you can count on that
If you’re a rumormonger, it’s always good for hits to state that the big-market teams are always hard at work on a blockbuster trade with several teams.
It also helps to link every team with every player that`s a likely trade target, so that when a trade occurs you will have, at some point, mentioned both sides of the deal. Then you can point back to it and say “I saw it coming!”
Take a big name of the UFA defenseman list. Gleason resigns in Carolina 4 per for 4.
Leading defenseman UFA’s
Suter
Carle
Wideman
Backman
Stuart
Mitchell
Rosival
Clark
Colaiacovo
Kubina
Kuba
Allen
Zanon

Pretty thin market. If Markov is still struggling I’d love to see them grab Carle, otherwise Zanon would be a solid 3rd pairing and PK guy.

And he’s big isn’t he? We might start hearing the Habs are too big and slow!

If Carle hits the open market I think he’ll get bank. 27 year top 4 guys are hot commodities. Plus his numbers are massively inflated by playing with Pronger all these years.
Backman, Allen and Rosival would be guys I’d take a look at if they want to add to the 2nd pairing.
Otherwise, the market might be weak enough that trading Kaberle will net some assets.

Roszival I wouldn’t mind, but not on more than a 2 year deal. We don’t need another Spacek situation.

As for Carle, if Markov is still not back we have 5.75M to play around with.
