Should Canada have its own professional hockey league?

The all Canadian 1909 NHA predates the NHL; Canadian players make up 60% of the NHL talent; Canada's best hockey players all play for American clubs (save Luongo and Iginla); 18 years and counting since a Canadien team brought home Lord Stanley's Cup to Canada; with the arrival of Winnipeg Jets there are now 7 hockey clubs in Canada - include Quebec[Hamilton] and that would make 8, the same number of teams in the CFL; if Canada had its own league the quality of hockey would greatly improve since all the players would be Canadian (the Americans could always create their own league and trophy); Canada could play in the Olympics and any other tournaments without have to consult the NHL in New York; we could go back to the old rules with the old Conferences Prince of Wales/Campbell and take back "all" our trophies; and best of all "NO GARY BETTMAN"!!!

This is like the other fan post about NHL based in Canada. It’s just not logical. Canada’s isn’t exactly made of money, it’s not like China where the government’s money does grow on trees. This would cost most likely billions and when Canada’s population isn’t a whole lot and span 3 oceans, there aren’t many real large cities to hold teams and population is spread out. So as much as people love hockey, a person out by the sea in New Brunswick ain’t gonna drive 2 hours to get to Moncton to have a 20 team league. If the attendance isn’t high, there’s not going to be as much money generated, so les pay for the players, then the Canadian players will end up going south to New York, Boston, Detroit, etc. It’s like the NFL and CFL. Successful CFL players like John Chick, Andy Fantuz, classics like Doug Flutie, even great Canadians like Austin Collie go down to the NFL just because it’s a higher salary. It makes no sense to have a Canadian only hockey league. And why the hate on Gary Bettman? For Nordiques and Jets leaving? Lockout? Happens in every league. Every commissioner gets hated on. Roger Goodell is taking flack right now as is David Stern for the NFL and NBA respectively. Hell people hate Vince McMahon for the WWE. And it’s only a matter of time for when CFL has a lockout and Mark Cohon gets hated on. Get some sense.

Why would a hockey league cost more than the CFL?

Why would a Canadian Hockey League cost more to operate than the Canadian Football League?

Player salaries, for starters. Or do you think Canadian players would pass up big money out of patriotism? The average salary in the CFL is under $100 000, and the league’s salary cap is around $4.5 million. Mike Cammalleri makes more money than the entire Alouettes roster.
