Great Interview With Canadiens Prospect Alexander Avtsin
Russian NHL Prospects has a very interesting Q & A with the Canadiens recently drafted Alexander Avtsin. Here's a snippet:
"I like Montreal and it's a better choice than one could have imagined. There work a lot of good people who's ready to help. When I went to Canada I talked with their scouts director Trevor Timmins, who told me: Don't be shy, if you have problems hockey or non-hockey related just call and we'll help you. It was pleasant to hear such words."

Good atitude
“Montreal picked you with the 109th overall pick. Was it too low?”
“Surely I was expecting to be picked earlier, but at the end I fallen down to 109th. I will have to show that I’m better than the other three guys (picked by Montreal earlier than him – RP) and play like a first rounder, not like a fourth.”
Gotta like that confidence
Oh yeah!
I think there were some steals in that draft. watch out for that Mac Bennett kid. Whata set of wheels!
The Junior A kids are always tough to project, but finding a kid with the kind of talent he had in the New Hampshire prep school circuit? Man, you can definitely say that Timmins is leaving no stone unturned. Of course, he’s seemingly neglecting the obvious, front line development leagues… no picks from the OHL or WHL this past year, or any of the European professional leagues (all 3 were taken from their national junior leagues), and none played in the NCAA last year, either. There’s a lot of work to be done from this draft class… only Dumont has played at a high level of competition so far, save for guys making international appearances.
That being said, I like the Dustin Walsh pick out of the OJHL. Good size, good hands, and he did play at the RBC Cup, so he’s experienced at least the highest level of competition he possibly could.
Hockey blogging can't get any flatter.
I kept wondering why they pepered the interview with “(smiles)”, then I came across this part:
“And what else did they teach?
We had a very interesting meeting about ties with journalists. They teach us how to work with the camera. And also that journalists usually ask the same questions (pause, sly mow)…
Really interesting…
That it’s better to anticipate questions, never be ashamed, always smile and reply calmly. (smiles)"
(smiles) is the new :)
