There’s quite a few 7-6, 6-5, 7-5 type of games in there, which I wouldn’t really consider “poundings,” as such. I wonder what it looks like if you add the restriction that the goal differential must also be at least four?
Actually, I don’t have to wonder. I added it up and got 6-10-1. Never mind, then.

Sorry Robert, but this is one of those stats I find pretty useless. The team has changed so much that it’s kind of irrelevant.

Depends how one looks at it.
It doesn’t concern the individual players at all. Teams per se, after bad drubbings, don’t usually come back strong the following night, especially on the road. You can pick any team from any era and study this predicament. There is relevance when you look hard enough for it.
I wonder how much would the results would vary if you studied the Islanders in relation to the Wings? Because in that case it isn’t about resilience, it would be just that a poor team doesn’t have the ability to bounce back because they are a poor team.

There could be a zillion things that factor in, such as days rest between games, quality of opposition, number of regular players out of each lineup, etc. What I did was a simple surface generalization that shows that on average, teams take some time to bounce back, weak or strong.
In doing this research, there wasn’t a point I set out to prove, as I didn’t know exactly what the findings would be. In tallying up the stats, I left out a few perceptions, and readers here or at HIO didn’t pick up on them.
While the overall record looks dismal, the Canadiens of the last two seasons – generally considered a strong club – were 6-6 in the last 12 games following 6 goal or more defeats. So in a sense, a more resillient Canadiens version has had a better record than the editions that came before it.
We will find out Saturday, which group this current bunch fits in with.
